The WOWers have moved on... places unknown but iconic in image.

One thing is clear... boats and food are still involved.

Traveling WOWers

The traveling WOWer's are having a really good time. They really enjoyed the parade to welcome the Atlantic Challenge teams. Maybe one day we will see the video taken that day?

Well, then there's the rowing at the south end of Roskilde Fjord which is itself the south branch of the Isefjord. Could their smiles be any bigger? I think not!

Traveling WOWers and Atlantic Challenge

Some of our WOWers have been traveling this summer. One of their goals was to see the Atlantic Challenge in Roskilde, Denmark. We have a youth contingent from Tacoma who joined forces with the East Coast crew for the Atlantic Challenge, together they will be representing the United States in Roskilde, Denmark.

The WOWers first stop... Copenhagen.
Wire jelly fish...

There's a boat in this tapestry....

What would a WOWer's life be without tea?

Next stop Roskilde, Denamark

Some of the American crew.

There are 12 other teams of competitors for the Atlantic Challenge. We wish our crew success!

Check out the video by Dylan Ladds of the training session on Green's Island, Maine.

Porpoise

Today the crew of Verite had the pleasure of rowing aboard the Porpoise, a 26-foot replica of a U.S. Navy Survey Gig from 1841, the boat that literally put Gig Harbor on the nation’s map.

Originally Gig Harbor was discovered by a British survey crew lead by Midshipman Joseph Sanford as part of Wilkes Expedition sent by the U.S. Navy to survey the coastline and waters of Puget Sound. The Americans showed up in 1841 and realized this was a golden opportunity for them to lay claim to everything by "naming it." This year is the 175th year since the "discovery" of the harbor (do note: the Puyallup Indians were residents at the time.)

Check out these reenactment videos:

Douglas McDonnell, a Gig Harbor resident and a volunteer with the Gig Harbor BoatShop, was the driving force behind this year's reenactment. He was our cox and guide for today's adventure.

Necessary paperwork....

Feel the zen coming on...

Crab on handmade bread sure beats bannock slabs any day!

As we row we can't help but think of our own boat ---- she's arriving in Roskilde, Denmark today for the Atlantic Challenge competition. We have a crew of WOWers going to Denmark.
