Physical Distancing but still social

It was on February 24th we had one last row before the world turned upside down.  By the middle of March, Pierce County was under the Stay at Home policy.

The WOWers busied themselves. They planted gardens, sterilized the the surfaces in their homes till they sparkled. They made masks and sorted through lifetime accumulations. By April The WOWers  learned to zoom. What a wonderful solution to 'social' distancing. As time passed there was a pattern to the chaos. Behaviors mastered, we zoomed two more times.

June was different right from the start. It brought out cabin fever that spread all over the nation. Everyone was getting antsy. We missed having High Tea at Low Sea.  Then Sally noted there was going to be a -2.7 low tide on Dumas Bay. With vows to stay 4-6' apart, wear our masks, and bring our own food we broke our self imposed quarantine.

Words can hardly express the joy of being near the water. Maybe you can see why. It was 80 degrees, a slight breeze with an amazing amount of beach.

The silliness started right away.
So did our admiration of natures beauty.

Nature tries hard to integrate the human created debris.

February's signs of spring

On land the signs and sounds of spring bring delight. Discovering the violets are in flower and new buds on the trees are definite signs the dark days are passing. Hearing the peepers late at night confirm warmer weather can't be far off. Indeed the signs on land signal the change.

On the water the story for February is quite different. There are days when you don't go out - you pump the boat instead. If you do row out you assign a bow-watch for logs as you churn through the brown Puyallup slip flowing into the bay. On the last Monday of the month, we are just grateful to be out, the clouds overhead and the brisk wind do not matter too much - for the WOWers are doing what we ough'ter.

Sunshine and clouds and wind and wave

February 24

We were the only ones on the water for quite some time.
Did someone say "cookies?"

One more time at the steering oar... before Oh Happy heads for dryer lands.
We know change happens.
It is inevitable.
In fact after a period of darkness we desire it.
We love the signs of green growth and white puffy clouds.
And yet, there is a sadness with letting go -
the times by the fire, the layers of rain suit and wool
keeping you warm as the brisk winds whip your hair
and push you backwards.

The times are a changing...
are we ready for it?
What will March bring?
