Moon Festival 2012

Tacoma's First Moon Festival - Sept 29, 2012

The Verite in tow with 6 Walker Bay boats alongside made their way to the Chinese Reconciliation Park. Each boat carried a paper mache zodiac figure: goat, rooster, dog, ox, pig, tiger. The Verite carried the horse. Excitedly all the participating boats lined up ready to race, but wait! The rat needed a boat. If you know the story of Moon Festival you will know how lucky it was the rat chose the Verite! And then the fun began! There were near wipe outs (it is possible to eliminate the competition with a long oar), then crabbing of a different sort, all the while our guest the 5 foot rat pitched wildly from side to side obscuring our coxswain's view which were the only eyes forward! You just can't buy excitement like this. You have to make it by hand.

The day ended with a soft cool wind tinkering with the round lanterns hanging from a wire, twinkling and glistening in the full moon.
