Super Moon Day

The clouds part - we go out!
The bathtub is full.
It's time to play and leave our troubles behind.
We bob and splash in our little green and yellow row boat.
Dwarfed next to the shiny big boy toy.

The season is passing, we are wistful under the November sky.
Then we see her - sitting tall and proud.
Blessings of nature still abound.

It is good luck sign to come under the watchful gaze of the heron.

As we walk the plank and take that last look back....
we say a prayer for all those who are not so lucky.

WOWsers! What a day!

Monday morning was nothing but showers, but by afternoon the skies opened with only puffy clouds dotting the blue sky. The day's challenge was to learn how to sail on the Walker Bays. They are a small sailing boat with a wide bumper edge, room for two if you scrunch down into the hull, and easy for the beginner. Miss M. gave us our instructions on how to put the boat together - slide this here, clip that here, tied down there, run the sheet through there. It was simple enough, but the trick - to find and keep the wind. OH, the wind (she? he?) is a fickle thing on fall winter days.

Our reward... homemade garden soup, cheese and crackers, cookies galore,

and the well liked fruit nut bread.

A shout out to our intrepid skipper and crew for helping with the fundraiser this past week
and to those participating in this week's adventure.
Well done mates!

In October Verite will be home. Fire up your ovens! A celebration can't be far behind.

August Adventures

Our beloved Vérité is very far away. She is on the container ship Munkebo headed for Singapore and won't be home till well into September if things go as planned.
So, in the meantime, the WOWers have been making the best of our "loss of boat."  For most of us it holds equal weight to all the Greek tragedies, yet rather than pine away we went in search of other adventures.

On the 8th of A,  six of us took a little row on the Porpoise. The Porpoise is a replica of the Wilkes Expedition gig, so it should be no surprise we set off to explore the bay named Gig Harbor. The events that followed, although similar to the trials of Odysseus, were completely within the range of what one might call a "training exercises." Yes, and that's how we are going to tell it.

Here's the short version:  discussion and warnings about what to do if there is lightening, bow pointed toward upstream shallows, extreme cloud burst, running a ground, actions - paddle poles, rock the boat,  WOman overboard, laughing policeman, old man amazed. The sun will come out - they say in the movies. It did. Teatime was lovely.

The boat - all clean and snug back in her berth.

All in all, it was a good training exercise.
And what did we learn from all this?
Believe what you see.
 Work together.
Also - just in case you aren't successful in saving yourself -
bring really good snacks for your rescuers.

Adventure #2 consisted of kayaking at Margaret's. A leisurely kayak to the point, lunch on the beach, later swimming and then lots and lots of laughing. Life is good.

Adventure 3 - A repeat of the last - because it was FUN! Someone had a birthday.... of course there was cake!

and fellowship. Yes, life is good.
