It's almost time!

Home stretch - yup - most everything is ready for launching day. Meetings have been infrequent and only on days that were warm enough so the last of the painting would dry properly. This past week we met to organize files and equipment - just twiddling our thumbs until we can put Verite into the water. Mark your calendars - April 19 -launching day! We will paint her bottom quick, sling her into the water and there she will need to sit for a week... maybe two. Maybe we should do some thumb wrestling in the mean time.

It's back to work we go

The work day started with a confession. She who had the number 5 thwart bag returned it. Confession is good for the soul and soles... secretly I believe she was grateful we didn't make her walk the plank. 

 It was good to be back to work on the boat now that the temperatures are warmer. The painting thankfully can commence.  One team tackled the white side wall paint, one steady hand delicately stroked paint on the gold, two painted the pine tar on the oars and two more painted the oar stripes white. Verite is looking so lovely and fresh. We will be meeting again on Monday March 17 - Saint Patrick's Day to paint some more and continue to count down till launch. 

 

 

 

She's looking grand

With temperatures warming, rain falling, and soup filling our empty spots we had fortitude to work into the early evening. Oh, my Verite is starting to look grand. Maybe it was the linseed oil/pine tar mix that has given us such a heady feeling, or maybe the fact we could use our extremities without fear they would break off in the cold, I don't know - it just seems as though this group can do just about anything.

Baby it's cold outside

After listening for weeks about the frigid temperatures and snow on the East Coast we finally a painted by the same arctic brush. Cars were off in the ditches, and true Pacific Northwest sock and sandal guys actually had long pants and shoes on!

These cold temperatures have made working on the boat a bit of a challenge. Paints and finishes shouldn't be applied at temperatures below 55 degrees, so we redirect our energy to jobs that can be done. Bit by bit the work is getting done - can rowing be far off?

What a crew!

 There were 10 of us this past week and the dust was flying. At the end of the day some of the oars got a coating of the "good stuff" - some kind of pine tar mix. This week we will probably paint. Lovingly the work continues.

 

 

The Work Continues

This past week we sanded the hull and oars. We will continue with that plan this next week. The crew cheerfully applies lots of elbow grease and effort so things are coming along splendidly.

Scrubbing away

This past Monday we gathered to wash down the Verite inside and out. Many hands made light the work. Thank you crew: Terese, Maria, Voski, Theresa, Jill and Jan. It was also much warmer than the week before when we removed all the floor board. This next week we will sand and smooth.
