So, in the meantime, the WOWers have been making the best of our "loss of boat." For most of us it holds equal weight to all the Greek tragedies, yet rather than pine away we went in search of other adventures.
On the 8th of A, six of us took a little row on the Porpoise. The Porpoise is a replica of the Wilkes Expedition gig, so it should be no surprise we set off to explore the bay named Gig Harbor. The events that followed, although similar to the trials of Odysseus, were completely within the range of what one might call a "training exercises." Yes, and that's how we are going to tell it.
Here's the short version: discussion and warnings about what to do if there is lightening, bow pointed toward upstream shallows, extreme cloud burst, running a ground, actions - paddle poles, rock the boat, WOman overboard, laughing policeman, old man amazed. The sun will come out - they say in the movies. It did. Teatime was lovely.
The boat - all clean and snug back in her berth.
All in all, it was a good training exercise.
And what did we learn from all this?
Believe what you see.
Work together.
Also - just in case you aren't successful in saving yourself -
bring really good snacks for your rescuers.
Adventure #2 consisted of kayaking at Margaret's. A leisurely kayak to the point, lunch on the beach, later swimming and then lots and lots of laughing. Life is good.
